Memories, Magic and Coupons! (#SaveWithBarbie)

 Barbie has always been a part of my life. When I was five years old I was obsessed with Barbie and toy ponies. Obsessed. I had my dolls and ponies tucked in with me at bedtime, and sitting next to me for breakfast. Barbie came in the tub, played on the swings, and slept over at grandmas house with me. Sometimes I was even nice, and shared with my little sister. But that was because she had the Malibu Barbie Dream House!

 My mom, being ever so awesome, always kept us stocked up on retro Barbie goodies via thrift shops and yard sales. Holidays were always the time for new dolls!

  One of my favourite childhood memories include Barbie. My mom stayed up the night before my sixth birthday and made me the bestest most magical cake ever! She isn't the most talented baker, and most of our celebrations have been with store bought cakes, so this was an extra special cake. It was a 3-D Barbie cake! *squee*  Her skirt was made of sweet white cake, with white vanilla icing and it was trimmed with red cinnamon hearts. Standing up in the middle of the skirt there was a beautiful Barbie with long blonde hair, and a crown. She was holding twinkling sparklers and there was a candle with the number "6" on it. Holy Hanna I swear I died that moment and went to Barbie Heaven! Cake candy and Barbie? Best. Birthday. Ever!

 As I've grown up my Barbies and I have parted ways, but the memories are always there. I love watching my daughter and son playing for hours with dolls. They pretend to bake, go horse racing, and play car mechanic. It always takes me back to those happy days when my little sister and I would play for hours and hours with Barbie, Skipper, Ken and Whitney. Oh the good times! :)
